Summer 2013, arguably the last summer vacation I’ll experience as a student is in it’s conclusion. It’s been one nice summer for me. Going to different places like Subic Bay, Antipolo and Batangas to discover good places and have a good time exploring in the open road. I also got the chance to earn some cash along the way with some side jobs I took, my birthday coming along at the end of April, hanging out with my friends in places like SM and TriNoma, and the never ending watch of the 2013 NBA Playoffs as my team the Houston Rockets made a nice but short-lived run in the playoffs including a win in a do or die game on my birthday. Aside from the Rockets, it’s been a nice playoffs with upsets and great matchups from the 1st round to the Conference Finals. As we know it will be a great conclusion to the East Finals as the Indiana Pacers and the Miami Heat will battle for the right to face the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
I also got to meet members of Red Nation (Fans of the Houston Rockets FYI) from all over the world from those living in Texas who are arguably the proudest members of Red Nation in the entire world, as well as those from other places around the world, places like Australia, Taiwan (Jeremy Lin nation), even Norway which my friend there told me has not much of a basketball following like we have here in the Philippines. More on the Rockets, I can’t wait for them to come over to the Philippines to play a pre-season game here when they and the Pacers play this October 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena. I will not miss the opportunity to meet the Rockets players like James Harden, Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik, Patrick Beverley and who knows they could bring in a big name in the free agency. Well it will also be fun to meet the Pacers, players like Paul George, David West, Roy Hibbert, George Hill and the rest of this team who have gone all the way to the East Finals against the defending champions and have a shot at going to the NBA Finals.
Well, summer is winding down and “The Final Push” will begin in hours time. The España journey will continue. Two more semesters to work on to complete the mission, a semester of thesis and a semester of practicum. I am as determined as anyone to FINISH STRONG in this last push of my school life before heading out to the field and get a job somewhere along the line. Of course, it will be the last semester I will get to see my blockmates on a regular basis since we’ll be off to different ways come the time we take our practicum so I have to make each moment count.
The journey is about to end, and after it another one begins. It will be one hell of a ride for sure. But just like what I have been doing for the past three years. I’ll sit back and enjoy the moments while it lasts. SENIOR YEAR in the words of Mike Goldberg, HERE WE GO!
I also would like to take a moment to remember my CTHM batchmate who passed away last Thursday, John Sinas. Though I never got to meet him more in person when he was around. It’s still tough on the heart to see a batchmate pass away early in his life. We hope you are in a better place man in the heaven’s above and we will see you again when the time comes.
THE FINAL PUSH STARTS NOW!
The second semester of the school year is well underway. They say this semester is the toughest of all semesters for a Travel Management student. Well, because the courses for this semester will be more technical at the same time the courses will be applicable when we go to work in our respective fields. So, we have met six of the eight professors this week. It will also be the last French language course we will take in the university. We will also get familiar with the Galileo system which is used for reservation systems. And for this semester, if we got enough money to proceed. We will go on a tour outside the Philippines together with my blockmates as well as two other section. Plus, a lot of other things that will happen this semester.
Well, a new semester also brought in new changes, there is a new leadership in tow for the section. I really wanted to pursue a position in office, because I really wanted to lead and this is what in mind would be my last shot to be able to do so. But, fate had other things in mind, and the fact that it wasn’t meant to happen right now. I’m still hoping that I’ll get the opportunity in the future.
The return to the university, also gives me a chance to see my friends at school again. After not seeing each other during the semestral break. I missed them a lot during my time off. Also, I did take the time away from school and the troubles of the past semester to get refreshed and ready for this semester. Things to look forward this semester is the annual Paskuhan, before the Christmas break, the CTHM College Week which is usually a first semester event, will now happen this semester after the ton of weather interruptions which postponed the event, and a lot of other events to come. I hope there will be another Sportsfest this year, I really want to play basketball again.
This is a critical point in my España journey. There is no room for complacency and failure. Times will be hard, and there will be a ton of challenges coming up. but we’ll still find a way to enjoy this semester at the same time learn a lot of things as well. One week is in the books, still a long way to go. I’m not expecting that much this semester. But I’ll put my head down, get myself pumped up and get this rollin’ along. Get ready for a comeback! Easier said than done, but I‘ll do my very best.
THIRD YEAR, SECOND SEMESTER,CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Today is the final day of the semestral break which began three weeks ago. Well, it was an eventful one. From going home to the province to catch some cool air, to going out watching a basketball game live. From playing basketball with some of my friends to the ever feared release of the grades from the last semester. From the end of the college basketball season to the start of a new NBA season. From lazy days at home to active mornings playing hoops every morning, and a lot of other happenings this semestral break.
Unfortunately, there was one thing that I was unable to do during the semestral break, and that was to try out NBA 2K13. I installed it successfully on my PC. Unfortunately, the game never played. It turned out the OS I’m using is not up to date and cannot carry the game. Well, I wanted to try it out on a computer shop. Then again, most of the time I was broke all vacation long due to the fact I don’t get allowance (when I get some to go out, it’s spent right away). Well I should learn saving money. One day, I’ll finally get to try the game. I really wanted to use the Houston Rockets with James Harden aboard once I get the chance.
Well in a few hours, it’s back to the grind of going back to school to continue my España journey. Well, on the first day. It happened that we only have one class since most of my classes in the morning will be cut to make way for a faculty meeting prior to the start of the year. This year, I’m aiming for a comeback. Easier said than done, but I’m all in and ready to bring everything I have. It will be a challenging semester for sure. Still, we need to stay positive and find fun in tough situations. I hope I can make the best of this coming semester, because right now, I need a good one this semester. I cannot wait to see all of my friends at school.
The journey continues, the return begins.
K-Smoove is all in
The 5-day first week of classes in CTHM has come to an end with a Saturday make-up class. It was my first Saturday class in my tenure in UST. Of course, it was to make up the week we lost when there was the APacCHRIE Youth Conference last week. A lot has happened all-week long from catching up with my classmates and PEEPS from in and out of the campus. Meeting our professors for the semester. The (sometimes long) breaks. My hoop dreams (which never took flight), and a story of giving tips for the freshies.
It was one day, I was walking by P.Noval and then a group of freshies from the College of Science asked me:
“Kuya, saan po Mang Tootz?”
Prior to that, I just passed by the place with a very long line as I was looking for a place to buy food at a low price (I’m saving.)
Then I told them.
“Derecho lang. May makikita kayong sign sa kaliwa. Mahaba pila!”
It was a very fulfilling experience. Knowing two years ago, I was in the same situation as they were experiencing right now.
It’s way too early to judge, so give time before you say something. One week is in the books, still a long way to go. This year is going to be a big challenge, it will be a ride worth taking, and at the end of the day, you will be fulfilled.
3T5, It’s back to the grind. We’ll get through these challenges. In every tough challenge that will come, never ever give up!
Words of the week:
“I got lost!” – Me, getting lost in explaining in one discussion. (Cobwebs on my thoughts.)
“I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul.” – From the poem Invictus by William E. Henley
Let’s get it on! Impossible is nothing.
There are only two days left before my summer vacation comes to an end. Well, the first day of my classes will be cut short as morning classes where most of my schedule is placed will be affected by the suspension due to the visit of the former Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad at the University of Santo Tomas in the morning. So it means I’ll only go for two classes that would last 2 hours.
Today, it’s a break from the NBA Playoffs. As there are no games today since the Thunder wrapped up their series against the Spurs in Game 6. Whereas, a Game 7 would be held today if the Spurs won that game. So right now, I’m relaxing on the final moments of the vacation.
Tomorrow, it will be a big day for sporting events to be seen here in the Philippines, it starts with Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat where the winner will face the Oklahoma City Thunder. Then it will be our “Pambansang Kamao” Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao going to battle against undefeated American Timothy “The Desert Storm” Bradley for the WBO Welterweight Championship. To cap the day, it will be Game 3 of the Shakey’s V-League Finals between the UST Lady Tigresses and the Ateneo Lady Eagles where the winner wins the championship.
What a way to cap off the vacation with these sports events, as a sports junkie (mostly a hoops junkie). I enjoy this great I hope the Celtics, Manny Pacquiao and the Lady Tigresses win their matches. That would truly cap off my vacation with a BANG!
To my friends and classmates at UST. I’ll see you all on Monday! I’ll be happy to see you guys around. I don’t know what this new school year will bring, but I’m ready.
GET READY FOR “K-SMOOVE: RETURN OF THE COMEBACK! FOR REAL!”
So we bid goodbye to the month of May, and we welcome the month of June. Summer is winding down and the rainy season is upon us as there’s already a typhoon by our shores at the moment. We should have been on watch for the NBA Finals right now, but due to the lockout-shortened season, we’re still in the middle of the Conference Finals as of this moment. Summer vacation is coming to an end, and I and the many students across the Philippines will return to the grind of classes in our respective schools, colleges and universities.
The school year begins in UST where I’m studying begin on June 4 with a mass, though classes will start the following day June 5. However, in the college I belong, CTHM, our classes begin on June 11 as the college will be hosting the APacCHRIE Youth Conference down at the Quadricentennial Pavilion on the first week of classes. However, we have to make up classes so 4 Saturday classes (2 in June, 2 in July) were scheduled after the conference.
Right now, I don’t know how to cap off this summer vacation. Maybe I should step out and do something good and lasting to cap off the vacation. I have to make it count. Get time to hang out with my friends one last time before school begins, but my friends will soon go to class starting on the 4th. So time is running out.
The grind of the classes is upon us. The early wake-up calls to come (as seen on my high school like schedule). The many lessons from French to Events Management we will learn in our classes. The tons of schoolwork to come and finish from homeworks, seatworks, quizzes, projects and many other types of schoolwork. The coming of the rainy season means expect a lot of traffic jams on rainy days especially the university is on a flood-prone area. But aside from all of that, spending time with my friends & blockmates at the university.
10 days left until the summer vacation comes to an end for me, and it’s back to the grind of classes. I can say my summer this year was one of the best I had in my life, though there were some events that made me sad, nothing too big of a deal to say the least. Hey, I can still cap off this summer with a BANG!
