NBA Daily Blog Playoff Edition: Pacers take series lead vs the Heat with win in Game 3 94-75. Spurs go up 2-0 vs the Clippers.

The Indiana Pacers have taken the series lead as the defeat the Miami Heat in Game 3 of their second round series at Bankers Life Fieldhouse 94-75. The Pacers now lead the series 2-1 with Game 4 to be played in Indianapolis on May 21.

Roy Hibbert led the Pacers with a double-double 19 points and 18 rebounds with 5 blocks. George Hill led the Pacers in scoring with 20 points alongside 5 assists. Danny Granger added 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. David West added 14 points and 9 rebounds. Darren Collison off the bench scored 7 points.

Mario Chalmers led the Heat with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. LeBron James added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Joel Anthony off the bench scored 10 points. Dwayne Wade was only limited to 5 points (all scored in the second half)

In San Antonio, the San Antonio Spurs take a 2-0 lead in their second round series as they win Game 2 against the Los Angeles Clippers at the AT&T Center 105-88. The series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on May 20. Tony Parker who celebrated his 30th birthday in Game 2 led the Spurs with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Tim Duncan added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Boris Diaw added 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Danny Green added 13 points and 2 steals. Manu Ginobili off the bench added 10 points and 5 assists. Blake Griffin led the Clippers with 20 points. Randy Foye scored 11 points. Chris Paul added 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals but was hampered with 8 turnovers. Caron Butler, Mo Williams and Nick Young each scored 9 points.

The Indiana Pacers even up their second round series against the Miami Heat with the win in Game 2 on the road at the American Airlines Arena 78-75. The series shifts to Indianapolis for Game 3 on May 18.
David West led the Pacers with a double-double 16 points and 10 rebounds with 2 blocks. George Hill added 16 points and 4 rebounds. Danny Granger added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals before fouling out with less the a minute to go in the 4th quarter. Paul George also finished with a double-double 10 points and 11 rebounds with 3 steals. Roy Hibbert added 8 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Leandro Barbosa off the bench scored 8 points.
The Heat who were playing without all-star Chris Bosh who is out indefinitely with an abdominal strain were led by LeBron James with 28 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Dwayne Wade added 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. Mario Chalmers and Shane Battier each scored 5 points.
In San Antonio, another series in the Western Conference begins as the San Antonio Spurs take Game 1 of their second round series against the Los Angeles Clippers at the AT&T Center 108-92. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with a double-double 26 points and 10 rebounds with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Manu Ginobili off the bench added 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Rookie Kawhi Leonard added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Danny Green added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Tony Parker dished out 11 assists with 7 points. Boris Diaw pulled down 12 rebounds with 7 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Eric Bledsoe off the bench led the Clippers with 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Blake Griffin added 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks. Caron Butler also scored 15 points. Nick Young scored 13 points. Chris Paul dished out 10 assists with 6 points and 5 steals.In other news, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was named the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year. Irving, led the rookies in scoring at 18.5 PPG, field goal percentage at 46.9%, free throw percentage at 87.2%, and placed second in assists at 5.4 APG, and three point percentage at 39.9%. Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves finished second in the voting, while Kenneth Faried of the Denver Nuggets finished third in voting. Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard, Knicks guard Iman Shumpert and Warriors guard Klay Thompson finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The First Round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs have come to an end. The Los Angeles Clippers became the last team to advance to the second round as they take a stunning road victory in Game 7 against the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedExForum 82-72. The Clippers almost blew the series after taking a commanding 3-1 series lead and losing the next two games which forced this match. But they held their grip in this slugfest in Game 7 and will now face the top-seeded team in the West, the San Antonio Spurs who are coming off a first round sweep of the Utah Jazz. Game 1 of that series will be on May 16 in San Antonio.
Chris Paul led the Clippers with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Nick Young off the bench scored 13 points. Kenyon Martin finished with a double-double 11 points and 10 rebounds with 2 blocks. Mo Williams scored 9 points. Blake Griffin, Caron Butler and Eric Bledsoe each scored 8 points.
Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Marc Gasol also scored 19 points with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. Zach Randolph added 9 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Conley and Tony Allen each scored 7 points.
In Miami, the Miami Heat begin the second round taking Game 1 of their series against the Indiana Pacers at the American Airlines Arena 95-86. Game 2 will still be in Miami on May 16. Recently crowned MVP LeBron James led the Heat with a double-double 32 points and 15 rebounds with 5 assists and 2 steals. Dwayne Wade added 29 points and 4 assists. Chris Bosh added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Joel Anthony off the bench added 9 points and 7 rebounds. David West led the Pacers with a double-double 17 points and 12 rebounds. Roy Hibbert also finished with a double-double 17 points and 11 rebounds. George Hill and Darren Collison each scored 10 points. Leandro Barbosa off the bench scored 9 points.

This is my 50th blog entry since I returned to blogging last month. So let’s get it on with today’s NBA Daily Blog.

For the first time since 2005, the Indiana Pacers advance to the second round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs as they win their first round series in Game 5 against the Orlando Magic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse 105-87. The Pacers will face the winner between the Miami Heat and the New York Knicks with the Heat leading the series 3-1 and Game 5 to be played tomorrow in Miami. Meanwhile for the Magic, they will face a uncertain off-season with key players entering their final contract years which includes superstar Dwight Howard and with coach Stan Van Gundy on the ropes to stay as head coach for the Magic.

Danny Granger led the Pacers with 25 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Darren Collison off the bench added 19 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. George Hill added 15 points and 6 rebounds. David West added 12 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Roy Hibbert added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Paul George added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 27 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Glen Davis added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Ryan Anderson added 14 points and 4 rebounds. J.J. Redick off the bench scored 12. Jason Richardson scored 8.

In Atlanta, the Atlanta Hawks keep their playoff hopes alive with the win in Game 5 against the Boston Celtics at Phillips Arena 87-86. Game 6 will be played in Boston on May 11as the Celtics have an opportunity to advance to the second round at home. Al Horford led the Hawks with a double-double 19 points and 11 rebounds with 3 steals and 3 blocks. Jeff Teague added 16 points, 5 assists and 2 blocks. Joe Johnson added 15 points, 4 assists and 2 steals. Marvin Williams also scored 15 points with 4 rebounds. Josh Smith also finished with a double-double 13 points and 16 rebounds with 6 assists. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with each scoring 16 points. Pierce also added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Garnett also added 7 rebounds. Ray Allen off the bench added 15 points and 4 assists. Brandon Bass added 14 points and 7 rebounds. Rajon Rondo finished with a double-double 13 points and 12 rebounds with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

In Chicago, the top-seeded Chicago Bulls force a Game 6 in their first round series against the Philadelphia 76ers with the victory in Game 5 at the United Center 77-69. Game 6 will be played in Philadelphia on May 11 as the 76ers have one more chance of advancing to the second round, this time on their home floor. Luol Deng led the Bulls with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Carlos Boozer finished with a double-double 19 points and 13 rebounds with 6 assists. Taj Gibson off the bench added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Rip Hamilton and Ronnie Brewer each scored 6. Brewer also added 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Jrue Holiday led the 76ers with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Lou Williams scored 13 off the bench. Spencer Hawes finished with a double-double 11 points and 14 rebounds with 2 blocks. Andre Iguodala added 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

In Los Angeles, the Denver Nuggets win a thriller as they win Game 5 of their first round series against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center 102-99. The Nuggets snap a 9 game playoff road losing streak and force a Game 6 back home in Denver on May 11. The Lakers had a chance to send the game into overtime but Kobe Bryant missed a three in the end game. Andre Miller off the bench led the Nuggets with 24 points and 8 rebounds. JaVale McGee finished with a double-double 21 points and 14 rebounds with 2 blocks. Arron Afflalo added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Danilo Gallinari added 14 points and 5 rebounds. Rookie Kenneth Faried added 10 points and 9 rebounds. Ty Lawson added 9 points, 8 assists and 3 steals. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 43 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Andrew Bynum finished with a double-double 16 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Barnes off the bench added 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Pau Gasol added 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 blocks. Ramon Sessions also scored 9 points with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

NBA Daily Blog Playoff Edition: DEFENDING CHAMPION MAVERICKS DETHRONED BY THE THUNDER IN A FIRST ROUND SWEEP WITH LOSS IN GAME 4 103-97.

The Dallas Mavericks title defense came to an abrupt end as the Mavericks lose their first round series in a sweep against the team they beat in last year’s Western Conference Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 of their series at the American Airlines Center 103-97. This is the 2nd straight season that the defending champions got swept in a playoff series. Ironically, it was the Mavericks who done it last year to the then back-to-back defending champions the Los Angeles Lakers during their 2nd round match-up. This is also the 2nd time a defending champion got swept in the first round in 5 years since the Miami Heat who won the title in 2006 suffer a first round sweep at the hands of the Chicago Bulls in 2007. The Mavericks are the first team to be knocked out of the 2012 NBA Playoffs in which nobody expected they will be so. For the Thunder, they advance to the 2nd round and will face the winner between the #3 Los Angeles Lakers and the #6 Denver Nuggets in which the Lakers lead the series 2-1.

James Harden off the bench led the Thunder with 29 points (15 of them in the 4th quarter including a clutch lay-up in the final moments of the game), 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Kevin Durant finished with a double-double 24 points and 11 rebounds with 4 assists and 2 blocks. Russell Westbrook added 12 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Derek Fisher scored 12. Serge Ibaka added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.

2011 NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with 34 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Jason Kidd added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Jason Terry who regularly comes off the bench, started the game and finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Ian Mahinmi off the bench added 10 points and 5 rebounds. Shawn Marion added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Vince Carter added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.

In Orlando, the Indiana Pacers are now one win away from advancing to the 2nd round for the first time since 2005 as they defeat the Orlando Magic in Game 4 of their series at the Amway Center 101-99. Game 5 will be back in Indianapolis on May 9. David West led the Pacers with a double-double 26 points and 12 rebounds. Danny Granger added 21 points and 7 rebounds. Roy Hibbert also finished with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds with 3 blocks. Geroge Hill added 12 points, 5 assists and 2 steals. Darren Collison off the bench added 11 points, 9 assists and 2 steals. Jason Richardson led the Magic with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Glen Davis finished with a double-double 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jameer Nelson also finished with a double-double 12 points and 11 assists with 6 rebounds. 2012 Most Improved Player Ryan Anderson and Hedo Turkoglu each scored 11. J.J. Redick off the bench added 10 points and 7 assists.

In Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Clippers pull off another comeback victory as they beat the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 3 of their first round series at the Staples Center 87-86. Game 4 will be in Los Angeles on May 8. Chris Paul led the Clippers with a double-double 24 points and 11 assists with 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Blake Griffin added 17 points and 4 rebounds. Randy Foye added 16 points and 4 rebounds. Mo Williams scored 8 off the bench. Reggie Evans pulled down 11 rebounds. Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Zach Randolph added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Marc Gasol finished with a double-double 11 points and 10 rebounds. Quincy Pondexter off the bench also scored 11.

In Salt Lake City, the San Antonio Spurs take a 3-0 lead in their first round series against the Utah Jazz at the EnergySolutions Arena 102-90. Tony Parker led the Spurs with 27 points and 6 assists. Tim Duncan added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Danny Green added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Stephen Jackson added 13 points and 2 blocks off the bench. Tiago Splitter added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Manu Ginobili dished out 10 assists with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Al Jefferson led the Jazz with a double-double 21 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Harris added 21 points and 5 assists. Derrick Favors also finished with a double-double 15 points and 11 rebounds with 2 steals and 2 blocks. Rookie Alec Burks scored 11 off the bench. Paul Millsap pulled down 11 rebounds with 9 points and 5 blocks

The Memphis Grizzlies bounce back after a devastating loss in Game 1 in which they led by as many as 27 to take Game 2 of their first round series against the Los Angeles Clippers at the FedExForum 105-98. The series shifts to Los Angeles for Game 3 on May 6.

Rudy Gay led the Grizzlies with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. O.J. Mayo off the bench added 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Mike Conley added 19 points and 6 assists. Zach Randolph added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Marreese Speights added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Tony Allen added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Marc Gasol added 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The 2012 NBA Playoffs have begun. Let’s get it on.
The best team in the NBA for the 2nd consecutive season, the Chicago Bulls made their opening statement with a win over the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of their best of 7 first round match-up at the United Center 103-91. However, the Bulls suffer a devastating blow to their playoff run as their hometown star Derrick Rose suffered a torn ACL on his left knee with 1:15 remaining in the 4th quarter and will be out for the remainder of the playoffs. The Bulls will miss his services, however the Bulls have proven this season they can win without Rose as they went 18-9 in the 27 games he missed in the regular season, and will this development help the 76ers in their first round matchup? That we will find out as the series progresses.
Rose led the Bulls in Game 1 with a near triple-double 23 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Rip Hamilton scored 19 points on 6-7 from the field. Luol Deng added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Joakim Noah finished with a double-double 12 points and 13 rebounds with 2 blocks. Kyle Korver scored 11 off the bench. Carlos Boozer added 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Elton Brand led the 76ers with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jrue Holiday added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Thaddeus Young added 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench. Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson led the Magic in Game 1 with both scoring 17 points. Nelson also added 9 assists. Richardson added 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Glen Davis finished with a double-double 16 points  and 13 rebounds with 3 blocks. Hedo Turkoglu scored 9. David West led the Pacers with 19 points and 9 rebounds. In Oklahoma City, in a early rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals, a case of déjà vu happened as Kevin Durant nails the game winner with 1.5 seconds left in the game as the Oklahoma City Thunder take Game 1 of their best of 7 series against the defending champion Dallas Mavericks at the Chesapeake Energy Arena 99-98. Durant finished with 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Russell Westbrook led the Thunder in Game 1 with 28 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Serge Ibaka added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks. James Harden coming off the concussion he suffered from Metta World Peace scored 19 off the bench. Dirk Nowiztki led the Mavericks 25 points and 5 rebounds. Jason Terry off the bench added 20 points and 5 assists. Shawn Marion added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Vince Carter added 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The New York Knicks pick up a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at Madison Square Garden 99-93. With the win, the Knicks improve to 35-30 with one game left in their schedule against the Charlotte Bobcats in Charlotte. While the Clippers drop to 5th place in the West at 40-26 0.5 game behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the 4th seed in the West as they played their final game of the regular season. Their seeding depends on the result of the Grizzlies’ final game of the regular season against the Orlando Magic in Memphis.


The Knicks were led by J.R. Smith off the bench with 21 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Carmelo Anthony added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Steve Novak scored 14. Baron Davis scored 12. Tyson Chandler added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Amar’e Stoudemire added 10 points to 7 rebounds.


The Clippers who played without Chris Paul were led by Blake Griffin with a double-double 29 points and 10 rebounds with 6 assists and 2 steals. Randy Foye added 28 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. DeAndre Jordan pulled down 10 rebounds. Caron Butler and Mo Williams each scored 9.

The Chicago Bulls take the win in a Central Division showdown against the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Lief Fieldhouse 92-87. The Bulls improve to 49-16 with one game left in the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Chicago. While the Pacers finish their regular season at 42-24, seeded 3rd in the Eastern Conference.
The Bulls were led by Kyle Korver off the bench with 20 points. Carlos Boozer added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Joakim Noah finished with a double-double 14 points and 14 rebounds. Derrick Rose added 10 points and 7 assists. Taj Gibson also scored 10 points.
The Pacers who played without star Danny Granger were led by Lance Stephenson with 22 points. David West added 13 points and 5 rebounds. A.J. Price off the bench scored 10.

The San Antonio Spurs win their 9th consecutive game by beating the Phoenix Suns at the US Airways Center 110-106. The Spurs improve to 49-16 with one game left in their schedule against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland. While the Suns end their season at 33-33 dropping to 10th place in the West, 0.5 game behind the Houston Rockets.
The Spurs who rested their Big 3 of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili were led by Australian point guard Patrick Mills with 27 points and 5 assists. Argentinian forward Tiago Splitter added 26 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. DeJuan Blair added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Rookie Kawhi Leonard also scored 10.
The Suns were led by Shannon Brown with 21 points. Sebastian Telfair scored 20 off the bench. Michael Redd scored 14. Robin Lopez added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. Marcin Gortat pulled down 10 rebounds with 9 points and 3 blocks.

In Orlando, the Orlando Magic clinch the 6th seed in the East with a victory over the Charlotte Bobcats who have now lost their 22nd straight game and now are one loss away from having the distinction as the worst team in NBA history at the Amway Center 102-95. J.J. Redick led the Magic with 31 points. Ryan Anderson finished with a double-double 24 points and 13 rebounds. Jason Richardson added 17 points and 9 rebounds. Jameer Nelson added 11 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. D.J. Augustin led the Bobcats with 23 points and 6 assists. Gerald Henderson added 17 points and 5 rebounds. In Cleveland, the Washington Wizards pick up the win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena 96-85. John Wall led the Wizards with a double-double 21 points and 13 assists with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Nene off the bench and Kevin Seraphin each scored 12. Nene also added 7 rebounds. Seraphin added 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Chris Singleton scored 10. Czech rookie Jan Vesely pulled down 12 rebounds with 7 points. D.J.
